This policy explains the cookies and similar local storage technologies Expatugal.com uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal data more broadly.
Under the EU ePrivacy Directive and GDPR, we only need your consent for non-essential cookies. Expatugal doesn't use any — everything below is strictly necessary for the site to function, so nothing here requires opt-in consent, though we still ask via the banner for transparency.
Technically, Expatugal doesn't set traditional browser cookies at all — we use your browser's local storage, which works similarly but stays on your device rather than being sent with every request. The distinction is legally treated the same way, so we cover it here.

That's the complete list. We don't use analytics cookies, advertising or retargeting pixels, social media embeds, or any third-party tracking scripts.
Both entries above are classed as strictly necessary because the site can't do its basic job without them: cookie_consent respects your choice on this banner, and the Supabase auth token is what keeps you logged in so you can RSVP to events, view the member directory, or post in News without re-entering your password on every page.
The only third party involved is Supabase (our database and authentication provider, hosted in the EU — Ireland). Supabase sets the auth token described above; it does not use it for tracking or advertising. We don't use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any comparable service.
You can clear both items at any time through your browser settings (usually under "Privacy" → "Clear browsing data" → "Cookies and site data" for expatugal.com). Clearing the auth token will simply sign you out; clearing cookie_consent will bring the banner back on your next visit.
Because nothing here is used for tracking or advertising, most browsers' "block third-party cookies" settings won't affect your experience on Expatugal either way.
If we ever introduce analytics or other non-essential cookies, we'll update this page, update the consent banner to request opt-in, and note the change date at the top of this policy.
